Lafayette Mayor Tony Roswarski, Tippecanoe County Sheriff Bob Goldsmith and TSC Superintendent Scott Hanback are among the guests who participated in Community of Readers Day at Hershey Elementary School. The Panthers welcomed nearly 40 different community members to celebrate reading.

Third grade teacher Sarah Carlson says community members were encouraged to come in and read to classes, as well as share about their profession: “The students had the opportunity to listen to a story read aloud by community members and also had the chance to learn and ask questions about what the reader does for our community.”

The students heard from a variety of readers including doctors, veterinarians, firefighters, police officers, former teachers, nurses and others.

“It was a great day,” says Carlson. “The school was busy and alive with smiling faces.”
